Your Questions Answered: All About Permanent Makeup
~General FAQ~
What is permanent makeup?
Permanent makeup is a cosmetic tattooing technique that enhances your natural features, such as eyebrows, lips, or eyeliner. Pigment is implanted into the skin to mimic the appearance of makeup, and results can last 1-3 years depending on skin type, lifestyle, and aftercare.
What’s the difference between microblading, powder brows, ombré brows, and combo brows?
Microblading:
Microblading is a technique where fine, hair-like strokes are manually created using a handheld tool. This method gives a very natural, hair-stroke look that mimics real eyebrow hair. It’s ideal for people with normal to dry skin and those looking for a soft, subtle enhancement.
Powder Brows:
Powder brows are done with a machine and offer a soft, powdered effect that resembles brow makeup. The result is a fuller, defined look with less sharp lines than microblading. It works well for all skin types, including oily skin, and offers a more filled-in appearance.
Ombré Brows:
Ombré brows use a machine to create a gradient effect, with the front of the brow being lighter and the tail being darker. This style mimics the look of eyebrow pencil or powder and is great for those wanting a bolder, makeup-like result. It’s suitable for all skin types.
Combo Brows:
Combo brows combine microblading with powder or ombré techniques to give a natural yet defined look. Hair strokes are added at the front of the brow, while the rest of the brow is shaded for more fullness. This method is ideal for clients wanting the best of both worlds—natural strokes with enhanced definition.
How long does permanent makeup last?
Depending on the procedure, skin type, and lifestyle, permanent makeup lasts between 1-3 years. Touch-ups are recommended to maintain the desired look over time.
Is the procedure painful?
Numbing cream is applied before and during the procedure to minimize discomfort. Most clients describe the sensation as mild and tolerable.
How long does the procedure take?
On average, the procedure takes about 2-3 hours, depending on the service being performed.
How should I prepare for my appointment?
Before your appointment, make sure to follow the pre-care instructions provided, such as avoiding caffeine, alcohol, and blood thinners 24-48 hours prior. You’ll also want to stop using skincare products with retinol, acids, or exfoliants two weeks before the procedure.
What should I expect during healing?
After the procedure, your brows will appear darker and bolder for the first few days. You may experience mild swelling and scabbing. The healing process typically takes 7-10 days, during which you'll need to follow aftercare instructions to ensure proper healing.
Can I work out or wear makeup after my appointment?
You should avoid working out, sweating, and wearing makeup on or around the treated area for at least two weeks after your appointment to prevent infection and ensure proper healing.
How often will I need touch-ups?
A touch-up is typically needed 6-8 weeks after the initial session to perfect any areas that may have healed lighter. After that, touch-ups can be done every 1-2 years to maintain the look.
Who is not a candidate for permanent makeup?
People who are pregnant or nursing, undergoing chemotherapy, prone to keloids, or have certain medical conditions may not be candidates for permanent makeup. Please consult with your doctor or read the pre-care section for more details.
Can I get permanent makeup if I’ve had previous work done?
Yes, but you must send in clear photos of your previous work to ensure that we can perform a successful cover-up. If the previous work is too saturated or uneven, removal might be required first
What is lip blush?
Lip blush is a semi-permanent cosmetic tattoo that enhances the natural color and shape of your lips, giving them a fuller, more defined appearance. The result is soft, natural-looking lips with a hint of color, and it can also help balance uneven lips or create a more symmetrical look.
How long does lip blush last?
Lip blush can last between 1-3 years, depending on your skin type, lifestyle, and how well you follow the aftercare instructions. Touch-ups are recommended every 1-2 years to maintain the color.
Will my lips swell after the procedure?
Yes, it’s normal for your lips to swell after the procedure. The swelling typically lasts 24-48 hours and will subside as the lips begin to heal. You may also experience some redness and tenderness during this time.
How can I reduce swelling after lip blush?
To minimize swelling, apply a cold compress to your lips for 10-15 minutes at a time immediately after the procedure. Avoid spicy or salty foods, and stay hydrated. Follow the aftercare instructions provided to aid in the healing process.
Is the lip blush procedure painful?
A numbing cream is applied before and during the procedure to minimize discomfort. Most clients feel little to no pain, but some describe it as a mild scratching sensation.
How long does the healing process take?

Can I wear lipstick after the procedure?
You should avoid wearing any makeup on your lips, including lipstick, for at least 10 days after the procedure to prevent infection and allow proper healing. Once your lips are fully healed, you can wear lipstick again if desired.
Will the lip blush color look too dark at first?
Yes, your lips will appear darker and more vibrant immediately after the procedure. This is normal and part of the healing process. The color will soften and lighten by about 40-50% as your lips heal over the next few weeks.
Can I eat or drink after lip blush?
You can eat and drink after your procedure, but it’s recommended to avoid hot, spicy, or salty foods for the first few days. Use a straw when drinking to minimize contact with your lips during the healing process.
Is lip blush suitable for everyone?
If you have a history of cold sores, you’ll need to take antiviral medication before your appointment to prevent an outbreak. Lip blush is not recommended for people who are pregnant or nursing, or those with certain medical conditions. Please consult the pre-care section for more details or speak with your doctor before booking.
How often will I need a touch-up?
A touch-up is usually needed 6-8 weeks after the initial procedure to perfect the color and shape. After that, touch-ups can be done every 1-2 years to maintain the look.

~Touch-up~
Why do I need a touch-up after Lip Blush or Microblading?
Touch-ups are essential to perfect the results of your initial lip blush or microblading session. After the first session, some areas may not retain pigment as well as others due to skin type, healing process, or natural pigment loss. The touch-up allows the artist to correct any unevenness and enhance color or shape for optimal results.
How long after the first session do I need a touch-up?
For both lip blush and microblading, touch-ups are typically scheduled 6-8 weeks after the initial procedure. This gives your skin enough time to heal fully and allows us to make any necessary adjustments to the pigment or shape.
Is the touch-up mandatory?
While not mandatory, touch-ups are highly recommended to ensure your lip blush or microblading heals evenly and looks its best long-term. Skipping the touch-up may lead to uneven results or color fading more quickly.
How long does a touch-up appointment take?
A touch-up session usually takes 1-2 hours for both lip blush and microblading, depending on the amount of work needed and the areas that require adjustments.
Will the touch-up hurt as much as the first session?
Since most of the work has already been done during the first session, the touch-up is usually less uncomfortable. Numbing cream will still be applied to ensure your comfort, just like during the initial procedure.
What if I don’t want a touch-up?
If you decide to skip the touch-up, your results may fade faster or appear less even. You’ll still see some results from the initial session, but the longevity and perfection of the results may be compromised.
How often will I need touch-ups after the initial healing phase?
For lip blush, touch-ups are generally needed every 1-2 years to maintain color vibrancy.
For microblading, touch-ups are recommended every 12-18 months to maintain the desired shape and color, as the pigment will naturally fade over time.
Will the touch-up make my lip blush or microblading darker?
The touch-up is an opportunity to adjust the color or intensity based on how your skin has retained the pigment. If you feel the color is too light or has faded in certain areas, the touch-up will help darken or even out the results. Your artist will work with you to ensure the color matches your desired outcome.
What if I need a third session after my touch-up?
In some cases, clients may need a third session to achieve their desired results. Skin types, health conditions, and individual healing processes can vary, making additional sessions necessary for perfecting the final look. A third session can be scheduled 6-8 weeks after the touch-up for an additional fee.
Is aftercare the same for touch-ups?
Yes, aftercare instructions for both lip blush and microblading touch-ups are the same as your initial session. You’ll need to avoid moisture, makeup, and sun exposure on the treated area to ensure proper healing and pigment retention.
How much does a touch-up cost?
Touch-up prices are usually lower than the initial session. However, if you wait too long after your first session, additional fees may apply. Some artists also offer complimentary touch-ups if scheduled within a certain timeframe. Please check with your artist for specific pricing.
